The Art of Oil Painting: A Masterclass in Two Approaches

$1,800.00

Two Painters. One Room. Five Days.

For the first time, Lauren Jones and David Bongiorno, two of the Sunshine Coast’s most accomplished oil painters, will teach together.

Over five days, the spontaneity of alla prima meets the discipline of classical technique in a single, fully immersive syllabus. Guided throughout by two teachers at the height of their craft, you will return to the fundamentals and extend your own practice, whatever your level.

The workshop is held in the historic Old Witta School, a beautiful schoolhouse set among the rolling hills of Witta. Fully catered lunches and refreshments are provided each day.

Places are limited.

*Please read through all the information below, including the Terms and Conditions, before purchasing your place in this workshop.

Who Are Your Teachers?

Lauren Jones is known for her bold, evocative brushwork, feminine portraits and still life scenes painted with an immediacy that celebrates the very materiality of paint. A Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) graduate from Monash University, her work is held by galleries in Sydney and Melbourne, and her alla prima approach captures a fleeting moment with confidence and energy.

David Bongiorno brings a different but complementary mastery; a classically-trained eye built on years of rigorous, self-directed study into anatomy, tonal structure and the science of indirect oil painting. Shortlisted for the Brisbane Portrait Prize, the Percival Portrait Prize and the Kennedy Prize (and a 2025 Brisbane Portrait Prize award winner), David's meticulous, old-masters-influenced technique explores form and atmosphere through dramatic chiaroscuro.
